Road trips sound fun and spontaneous, right? But with Multiple Sclerosis, spontaneity has limits. Long hours on the road, managing fatigue, and keeping up with MS symptoms meant I had to pace myself constantly.
We took plenty of breaks—not just to see the sights but to make sure I could rest when I needed it. One rest stop in particular stands out: We pulled over, my husband stretched his legs, and I laid down in the back of the RV to recharge. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was necessary.
Living with MS while traveling means you adapt. You adjust. You learn to listen to your body and not push too hard. This trip taught me that when the road doesn’t bend to your needs, you have to bend with it. And that’s okay, too.
