Leaving Paducah felt like the start of an exciting new chapter—our RV journey southward was anything but straightforward! With Hurricane Helene on the horizon, we knew we needed to head south without veering east, which would take us directly into the storm’s path. After strategizing our route, we enjoyed a recent fun detour for some Chick-fil-A in Alabama, a nice little treat before diving back into the adventure. As we drove on, the weight of the devastation caused by the hurricane in other areas was a sobering reminder of nature’s power, but we kept our spirits up and focused on the road ahead.
Looking back on our time in Paducah, I chuckled at how we had to maneuver into the RV site. As we pulled in, we brushed against some overhead limbs but managed to settle in without any major issues. It never crossed our minds that we might have disturbed the skylight above the shower. The first sign of trouble came the morning we left—there it was, a little leak, just in time for the hurricane rains that had begun to hit Paducah. It was a bit of a surprise, but hey, what’s an adventure without a little excitement?
Arriving in Florida: A Leak and the Challenge of Humidity
By the time we reached Florida, the leak had worsened, and it was clear we couldn’t ignore it any longer. Between the rain and the bumpy roads, our roof was in need of repair. Through some referrals, we found a great mobile technician—Westcoast RV in Hudson, FL. They were incredibly responsive and a tremendous help, quick and efficient, just what we needed to fix the roof before it became a bigger problem. And yes, it rained again while on our trip, but we were in the clear—no leaks this time!
Now, about that Florida humidity! As an avid walker who works out frequently, I quickly realized that keeping up my routine would be quite the challenge in this weather. However, I did get to casually walk my sister-in-law’s pup, which at least got me out a bit and provided a nice little break from the RV.
Adjusting to Florida’s climate was a reminder that MS requires flexibility. Just as I adapted to the winding roads and wet conditions, I had to find my rhythm to fit the humidity and my body’s needs. It wasn’t always easy, but as always, the road teaches patience and resilience.
Embracing the Unexpected
From navigating rain-soaked roads to facing the realities of traveling with MS, this journey has reminded me to find joy in the unexpected. The lessons learned along the way taught me to embrace the mess, the imperfections, and the creativity that come with life on the road.
With the leak repaired and Florida’s humidity still testing my limits, we’re ready to continue southward. Who knows what the next leg of our journey will hold? One thing’s for sure: it’ll be another patch in the quilt of this adventure!
